Mental Health in Kansas City

Opioid addiction is a common behavioral health issue in the state of Missouri. In 2017, government officials established a monitoring program to oversee drug prescribers and prescription drug dispensers in the state. Missouri also received a federal grant to help reduce the death rate due to opioid overdose.

In 2016, the city opened the Kansas City Triage and Assessment Center. The facility gives Kansas City police officers a place to bring residents who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis, rather than taking them to jail or an emergency room. Individuals can get a shower, a meal, and a mental health assessment while they stabilize.
